Chelsea Flower Show 2008

Chelsea Flower Show 2008 "Now... This is Barbados!" were the words overheard as the unidentified host of a wandering film crew came upon the Barbados Horticultures Societies display at the 2008 Chelsea Flower Show. He had no idea that that phrase was the title of the Barbados display but he knew he liked the modern organic look and sound of the musician, David Kirton who complimented flowers beautifully displayed to represent the changing landscapes of Barbados.

Before you reach Chelsea you smell the flowers, at first it's a feeling of fresh cut grass on the air then add the rolling fields, forests, moss, streams, flowers, ancient woods, roses and just when you think you know what to expect you see the color.

Amidst all of this well arranged, very secure chaos walked two Rastafarian musicians in long coats with guitars; to say they stood out would be an understatement. Film crews and reporters circled the perimeter to see what was going to happen this year at the Barbados display, never before has there been a live singer performing at a display at Chelsea, so this was news worthy.

David Kirton performed a selection of music from all three of his albums including Green Camouflage, Time for change and Free to Fly as well as songs yet unreleased. BBC, Australian Television, CNN, Architecture Digest, Guardian, Sir George Martin (producer of the Beatles) all took note, drawn by the music, flowers and personalities. At the end of the day Kirton was invited to do a live performance and interview on BBC radio at their onsite radio booth, this was carried on numerous local BBC radio stations as part of their Chelsea Coverage. David Kirton was accompanied by his music director / lead guitarist from N. California Andre Jonson. Kirton had other successful showcases, BBC interviews and small club performances while in London. This combination of organic art disciplines was the brainchild of Keith Miller, Miller Publishing and endorsed by the BHS. Virgin Airlines and The BTA sponsored the musician's trip to RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
